What? Who says I don’t have anything better to write about?
Sometimes taking a look at what you’ve set to do is enough to spur you into action. I wanted to share two quick items.
First, I’ve begun reading Chapter 4 of Inside SQL Server 2008 T-SQL Querying. This is the one that had caused me a little stutter in my studies because it’s quite in depth. And you know what? It really is. Even within the first 20-something pages, the author goes into three or four different ways to parse a trace file, starting with T-SQL and ending with CLR. All I’m saying is that this stuff is serious. Still, he didn’t use a Tally Table to generate his mock database, so I’m still a little ahead in some areas.
Second, I wanted to give a small update on the presentation. Namely, I’ve decided to create a professional development presentation that begins with how I was made an accidental DBA, and then the resources and habits I formed in order to overcome it in a short period of time. Sound familiar? It should. I enjoyed writing that short series and it has a nice story built into it; I felt it was pretty ripe for turning into an all out presentation. Don’t worry, User Group Leaders, I won’t hold you to your invitations.
