Data and Design

Quietly Busy

Busy at work, but I can now say that I’ve built my own database/data warehouse/data process that will completely automate our donor acknowledgment process based on mutliple levels of criteria from the type of gift to the person who gave it. Or rather, I can say that I’ve built it once it’s done in the next day or so. I’m close to finishing, and while I feel like a dirty SQL developer, I’ve learned and firmed up my knowledge in so many areas, especially programming database objects. Itzik’s book has been my best friend.

And so while I’ve got some idea floating around in my head, I also want to finish the project, see what I can do to improve it, and then draw up some blogging topics.

But I do have this piece of advice: do something new. If you’ve concentrated on admin work, try some development. If you develop, maybe study a little design. Designer? Why not try your hand at some T-SQL? It’s great to learn something new and to have these experiences broaden your view.
