SQL Saturday #59 Live Blog

Event Blow-by-Blow

6:00am – Just arrived New York City via Greyhound at the Port Authority. Only about a mile away to the Microsoft offices where SQL Saturday will take place, but I’ve taken shelter at a Starbucks until it gets closer to the event. Getting pumped on their Jah-Rock. Much more to come, so please come back often!

8:20am – Everything seems to be set up and under control. Steve Jones is warming up the crowd and there’s a Women in Technology breakfast going on as well.

9:00am – Hitting Allan Hirt’s (Site) High Availability. Make the solution manageable! Don’t simply throw technology at the problem.

10:00am – Transactional Replication with Hilary Cotter. Turns out I was right in my assumption that I’d want to use this in a potential reporting solution. Ha!

11:00am – Waits and Queues with Robert Pearl of PearlKnows ( @PearlKnows ). And apparently, no one in the room monitors wait times… yikes. Robert seems to be a fun and energetic presenter, which I definitely need right about now.

1:00pm – Karen Lopez ( Blog | @datachick ) is now beginning her talk about Database Design Contentious Issues, which you’ll also be able to see at SQL Saturday #61 in DC on December 4th! I’ve heard some good things about this preso so I’m psyched.

2:00pm – ZOMG it’s Steve Jones ( Blog | @way0utwest ) giving his Modern Resume presentation. I am excited and I am tired.

3:30pm – It’s over! Prizes handed out, cleaning up. See you at the after party!

Nice. I’ll also tweet updates throughout the day, much to everyone’s annoyance… :-)

It was a great crowd – lots of debate, opinions and fun.
